The Cassini packet transponder is designed to help network operators upgrade and expand their existing metro and long-haul DWDM networks to include new 100G capacities, facilitating inter-datacenter and Layer 3 services. With a 1.5RU form factor and 3.2Tbps throughput, it features Broadcom StrataXGS Tomahawk Plus silicon. It includes sixteen 100GbE QSFP28 ports and eight flexible linecard slots for additional 200GbE or DCO optical ports. Cassini supports ONIE for easy installation of compatible NOS software, including Open Network Linux and other commercial options. The switch supports Ethernet and optical line cards with MACsec security for encrypted connections on client-side and metro/long-distance links.

Key features of Cassini include high capacity, with a 3.2Tbps switching fabric (expandable to 6.4Tbps), and cost-effectiveness by combining switching and transport functions in one device. It offers flexibility with line-side plug-in options, supporting both coherent and non-coherent subscription ratios from 1:1 to 15:1. Cassini is user-friendly, with a transport library for API functionalities, automated monitoring, and failure reporting. It is OCP compliant and pre-loaded with diagnostics software and ONIE. Long-life reliability is ensured through redundant 60mm fans (3+1 dual-rotor assemblies) and redundant power supplies (1+1 PSU).

Applications for Cassini include Ethernet core, metro, and edge switches, data center switch/router, packet transport switch, mobile backhaul, and enterprise switch and router.
