With full line-rate switching capabilities at both Layer 2 and Layer 3, the DCS209 boasts 48 x 10GbE ports and 6 x 40GbE uplinks, providing a versatile solution for various network architectures. Whether deployed as a top-of-rack switch or integrated into a 10GbE or 40GbE distributed spine, the DCS209 plays a crucial role in forming a non-blocking folded-Clos data center fabric, ensuring seamless connectivity and optimal performance. Its rack-mountable design supports installation in standard 19-inch racks, with the additional option for compatibility with the 21-inch Open Rack through the Open Rack Switch Adapter. In terms of hardware, the DCS209 is equipped with essential high-availability features critical for uninterrupted data center operations. These include redundant, hot-swappable AC power input, 4+1 redundant fan modules, and front-to-back or back-to-front airflow options. As an ideal top-of-rack switch for virtualized data centers, the DCS209 supports VXLAN and NVGRE tunneling functions in hardware, leveraging existing Cat 5e/Cat 6/Cat 6A/Cat 7 cabling infrastructure, thereby saving on further investment. Furthermore, the DCS209 is an open network switch loaded with the Open Network Install Environment (ONIE), simplifying the installation process of compatible Network Operating System (NOS) software. This includes support for both open-source options and commercial NOS offerings, ensuring seamless integration and compatibility with diverse network environments.
