Test SONiC Linux in Virtual Datacenter

PICOS® from Pica8 now runs on Edgecore AS7816-64X

Another one to add to the list! – Pica8 successfully ported their famous PICOS® Enterprise Edition on Edgecore Networks’ 100GbE high-performance data center switch AS7816-64X. This is great news for all network engineers as more and more Open Networking configurations become available.

The next thing to happen is our experts testing this particular configuration in our R&D facility STORDIS LABS to verify the compatibility and to provide set-up documentations and support services for our customers.

STORDIS can help you find your best Open Networking solution by offering tailor-made services such as consultancy, hardware sourcing, software installation, on-site deployment and professional support. By the way – did you know that you can get remote access to our STORDIS LABS in Germany and the UK for your very own testing? We also send out sample products for onsite testing, if available. Just get in touch with us for further information.

For all who are not familiar with PICOS® or the Edgecore AS7816-64X, I added some information down below. Some content is taken from the official websites of Pica8 and Edgecore and I do not claim ownership of it*.

PICOS® Enterprise Edition from Pica8

The PICOS® enterprise edition offers the most comprehensive support for enterprise features on the market and includes the Debian Linux distribution – with an unmodified kernel for maximum DevOps programmability – L2/L3 switching and routing; and full support for Pica8´s revolutionary CrossFlow™ capability. Only PICOS® Enterprise Edition can control every switch port in a network using both L2/L3 protocols and OpenFlow at the same time. CrossFlow, which is only available from Pica8, tightly couples the L2/L3 and classic SDN control planes to give network operators real-time, non-disruptive control of their enterprise applications, deep and dynamic traffic monitoring, and even attack mitigation without interrupting flow processing or requiring switch restarts. Over 1,000 customers in 40+ countries – and counting – have already deployed Pica8´s open standards-based Network Operating System to solve some of the world´s toughest next-generation networking problems.

Edgecore AS7816-64X

The Edgecore AS7816-64X is a Top-of-Rack (TOR) or spine switch for high-performance data centers. The switch provides line-rate L2 and L3 switching across 64 x QSFP28 ports, each supporting 1 x 100GbE or 1x 40 GbE, or via breakout cables 4 x 25GbE or 4 x 10GbE. The AS7816-64X can be deployed as a TOR switch supporting 10/25 GbE to servers with 40/100 GbE uplinks, or as a spine switch supporting 40/100GbE spine interconnects. This open network switch is loaded with the Open Network Install Environment (ONIE), which supports the installation of compatible Network Operating System software.

Edgecore Networks is market-leading in the open networking industry providing a full line of 1GbE, 10GbE, 25GbE, 40GbE, 50GbE, and 100GbE open and OCP switches that offer choice of NOS and SDN software for data center, telecommunications, and enterprise network use cases.
